Located east of Del Mar and north of Sorrento Valley is Carmel Valley.  The area takes it name from a dairy farm that was founded In 1905 by the Carmelite Sisters of Mercy.  While it is one of the newer neighborhoods in San Diego County, Carmel Valley has experienced significant growth over the last few decades and today has a population of over 40,000 fulltime residents.
