Located West of Downtown and South of Point Loma is Coronado.  A resort community and destination from the onset, Coronado was named the best beach in the United States by the Director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research in 2012.  Connected to mainland San Diego by the sweeping Coronado Bridge to the East and the Silver Strand tombolo to the South, Coronado is it's own municipality.

The most notable landmarks in Coronado are the Hotel Del Coronado featured in the Marilyn Monroe film Some Like it Hot and the military installations along North Island.
