Named for the Franciscan Friar Junipero Serra, Serra Mesa is located North of Friars Road and South of Aero Drive.  Modern development of Serra Mesa began in the 1950s with the construction of a Navy housing development known as Cabrillo Heights.

 

Today, Serra Mesa features over 8,000 housing units.  While there are condominiums and multifamily apartments in Serra Mesa, the majority of the housing are single family homes.
